Koshi 4 Elements Collection
Terra, Aqua, Aria & Ignis – Four elements. Four tunings. One shared world of sound.
The Koshi 4 Elements Collection represents the classic sound world of French maker Koshi. Four instruments – Terra, Aqua, Aria and Ignis – are inspired by earth, water, air and fire, each with its own distinctive musical tuning.
Inside every Koshi are eight precisely tuned metal rods fixed to a metal base. A clapper sets them in vibration, while the cylindrical bamboo veneer resonator gives their sound its distinctive character: clear and delicate in each individual note, yet warm and gentle in resonance.
Terra – Earth
Terra represents the element of earth. Its tuning has a calm, grounded character, providing a warm foundation within the four Koshi sound worlds.
Aqua – Water
Aqua is inspired by water. Its notes have a fluid, mobile quality, flowing into one another and continually creating new melodic connections.
Aria – Air
Aria reflects the lightness and movement of air. Its bright, open tuning allows the notes to respond delicately to one another, giving the sound an airy, floating quality.
Ignis – Fire
Ignis represents fire. Its lively tuning brings a more pronounced sense of warmth and movement to the collection, complementing the character of the other three instruments.
Four instruments that can speak to one another
Terra, Aqua, Aria and Ignis are individual instruments, yet their tunings have been chosen so that they also harmonise when played together.
Two, three or all four Koshi Chimes can therefore be combined. Their individual tonal colours remain recognisable while their notes become part of a broader, layered soundscape.
Whether moved by the breeze or deliberately played by hand, the sequence of notes is never entirely predetermined. A gentle turning motion creates different patterns from a soft pendulum movement – and the wind continually finds melodies of its own.
Handcrafted in France
Koshi Chimes are made in the workshop at the foot of the French Pyrenees and individually tuned by hand. Precise pitch is only part of the process. Equally important is the way fundamental notes, resonance and overtones interact within the finished instrument.
The result is four distinctive voices belonging to the same family:
Terra – Earth. Aqua – Water. Aria – Air. Ignis – Fire.
Four elements, four tunings – distinctive on their own and a shared world of sound when brought together.
