Acai is a fruit which comes from a type of palm tree that mainly grows in the Brazilian Amazon Basin. The small, dark-red or black berry is a traditionally important part of the diet for the local natives. In the last few years, Acai has achieved worldwide fame as a ‘Super-fruit’. And rightly so, since the Acai fruit contains a unique array of vitamins, minerals, unsaturated fatty acids, fibres, and above all, an abundance of natural anti-oxidants. These substances have cell protective properties and are of vital importance in the strengthening of the immune system as well as slowing down the aging process. They have the ability to bind free-radicals within the body and to render them inactive.
