The Woodstock Chimes of Earth – Silver is tuned to a pentatonic five-note scale. This particular form of tuning allows the notes to work harmoniously together even when their order is completely unpredictable – an ideal foundation for a musical instrument where the wind alone decides what will sound next. 

Woodstock associates the six silver aluminium tubes with a pentatonic G minor scale. Unlike a complete major or minor scale, a pentatonic scale uses only five different scale degrees. This creates open, balanced sequences of notes in which many different combinations naturally complement one another. 

That is precisely what makes this wind chime so appealing. There is no predetermined melody. Sometimes a single tube sounds; sometimes another answers; and a stronger breeze may set several notes in motion at once. The same tuning therefore creates an ever-changing succession of small musical phrases. 

The name Chimes of Earth refers to our home planet and its diversity. Woodstock combines this idea with a deliberately universal musical tuning – calm and harmonious without being tied to one particular melody. 

The design is equally clear and timeless. Six silver aluminium tubes are combined with wood in a warm bubinga finish. The removable windcatcher responds to moving air and can also be individually customised if desired. 

With an overall length of approximately 94 cm and a diameter of around 18 cm, the Chimes of Earth has a substantial presence. Its balanced sound makes it equally at home in gardens and patios or in protected spaces where its tones can be consciously enjoyed.
