The distinctive character of the Woodstock Bells of Paradise – Bronze comes not only from its musical tuning, but also from the way its six aluminium tubes are suspended. Designed to vibrate freely for longer, they allow each tone to linger in the air after the breeze has set the chime in motion.
The six bronze-coloured tubes are tuned to a B-flat major scale, creating warm, harmonically related tones that combine in ever-changing ways with each movement of the wind.
This lingering resonance is at the heart of the Bells of Paradise. A single impulse can create a succession of tones and overtones that gradually fade into silence. Often, the next breeze arrives while the previous notes are still resonating, creating a layered and flowing soundscape.
Visually, the design remains clear and understated. Bronze-coloured aluminium tubes provide a warm contrast to the black aluminium ring and windcatcher, while a styrene clapper sets the six tubes in motion.
